Stylist Coloring Hair

STEP 1:
Prep and protect the hair with Joico Defy Damage ProSeries 1. Shake the can vigorously then spray in short bursts onto 2-inch sections of hair in a downward motion. Comb the hair for even distribution.

STEP 2:
Start by sectioning the hair down the middle to the nape. Take a section from the point of the crown to the top of the ears.

STEP 3:
Place the two back sections in chop sticks for ease of partings and a fun look. Section the fringe out. Place the front two sections in chop sticks for a total of 5 sections.

STEP 4:
Starting in the fringe, split the triangle in half. Take a diagonal back zig zag section, slice off the zig zag and apply formula 1 feathering at the base.

STEP 5:
Continue this same method until the section is done.

Repeat on the other side

STEP 7:
Working in the side front quadrant; take a large zig zag parting that is diagonally forward. Take a slice parting off the zig zag; tease the base and apply Formula 1 shifting your developer up 5 Volume. The thickness of your sections will determine the amount of contrast created.

STEP 8:
Continue working up the side section. With each new parting, your zig zags will increase to create more contrast.

STEP 9:
Once the side is completed, repeat on the other side. Shift your developer up 5 Volume. As you work up towards the top of the head, tease less. This will create a higher contrast finish. Braid the left-out hair for control and a cool processing look that creates interest in the salon.

STEP 10:
Working in the back quadrant off a diagonal forward parting at the hair line, take a large zig zag, slice the zig-zag, tease the base more towards the center back and apply Formula 1. Shift your developer up 5 Volume.

STEP 11:
Continue working in the same method up the back quadrant. Your zig-zags should increase as you work up towards the top with your teasing becoming less and less. Make sure to feather your formula at the base to create a seamless blend. Repeat on the other side shifting your developer up one last time 5 Volume.

STEP 12:
Process until you reach level 9 Pale Yellow. Shampoo with Defy Damage Protective Shampoo. Towel dry the hair and proceed to toning application.

STEP 13:
Apply formula 2 in a tear drop formation that is shallow towards the front and gets deeper in the interior. Working off diagonal back sections will maintain client comfort and ease of application.

STEP 14:
Create contrast and dimension with formulas 3 and 4 in a High-Low method. Take large diagonal back sections. Apply Formula 3 to one section, take an additional large diagonal back section and apply Formula 4. Repeat this throughout the entire head.

STEP 15:
Process for 10-20 minutes. Shampoo with Defy Damage Protective Shampoo. Apply Defy Damage ProSeries 2 throughout the entire head and process for 5 minutes. Rinse and style as desired with your favorite Joico products.
